John,

The board to board spacing needs to be at least 5/8 inch (0.625’’).
You need to look out for jumpers P11, P42, and JP11 between the boards, and also maybe the voltage regulator heat sink fins (SMB V01, V02).

Will all the signals line up one-to-one if you go straight up from the SMB board, and straight down from the Display board?

I have attached a 3M connector data sheet I got from Mouser.com. It gives you 0.425’’ height.

I am replying to the N8VEM community also because someone might have already done this or might have a similar idea.

Subject: S100 SMB BOM Question

Rick,

On the SMB BOMs it seems that the BOM is for a cable-connected daughter board, since both the shrouded and the unshrouded 26-pin connectors are male. I have searched Jameco up and down but have been unable to find a female 26-pin PCB-mounted plug. Could you point me to the proper 26-pin connectors for mounting the daughter board directly to the main board?

The BOMs are appreciated!

Thanks!

Rick -

I've built both v02 and v03 of the SMB. The signals do connect straight
thru, I put a dual header (pins) on the main S100 board and dual female
(socket) on the display board - and used threaded stand-offs on the 4
mounting holes (they look to be 0.4" in length). I figured that if I
later wanted to move the display board to the front of the case I could
just build up a second display board with pins and use a ribbon cable.

The headers I purchased from Ebay. The auction was last summer, so the
same seller in China has disappeared - but look at auction #171309461704
which looks identical to the item I purchased.

At least for me the clearance worked out fine - at least using
relatively short jumpers (Ebay # 291075703105) and machine pin sockets.

Gary - awesome! I even found some 26 pin ones at 29 cents apiece. What
Jameco doesn't have, eBay does!

Thanks!
