[N8VEM-S100:6815] MiniFP users - check this

Not sure if this may be related to the problems we¹re seeing with this
board, but I was looking at my CompuPro backplane and I noticed that pins 20
and 70 are grounded per the IEEE696 specification, while on the IMSAI, only
pin 70 is grounded. Pin 20, I believe, is the UNPROT signal.

Maybe it¹s not the problem, but I think everyone should try isolating pin 20
from the bus by leaving both J3 and J4 open or otherwise confirming that pin
20 is not connected to ground at the bus. The only issue with this is if you
use an early memory card that requires a high on pin 20 to enable writing it
won¹t work. I remember having to isolate 20/70 on certain CompuPro cards in
order to get them to work with the IMSAI.

Just a thoughtÅ

Yes that was a much discussed issue at the time the IEEE specs came out. It meant for example people had to pull up their Godbout and the likes motherboards, and disconnect the lines from active termination. That is also why also the S100 boards we now do have P1,P2 and P3 jumpers to ground on them. It would have been great if the original Altair board had a pin to ground in the middle of the bus. It would make route tracing easier. However since the option are jumpers only, it effectively is un used in board tracing.

My FP Mini is working fine, with just the MWRT jumper installed. All the other jumpers for grounding those pins are out.

Every time I see the FP Mini mentioned, my mouth waters like a dog's does
when he sees food he wants.
Does anyone have one of these with a set of switches that they would part
with?
I want one!

John,

Regarding the switches. I placed another order from NKK directly.
For some reason my NKK rep is not responding to voice or emails.
I'm wondering if she left the company.I also found a small stock at mouser
and ordered what they had left. Those show backorder and I'm betting they
are waiting on delivery from NKK as well. I just checked status at mouser
and it just shows a status of Back ordered with no ETA.

I'll place another call to NKK in the morning and see if I can get a status.

I'm pretty sure I have a partial set of switches. I know for sure I have
an NKK alternative for the SPDT. they are white. Checkout my site
for photos (http://s100parts.com).

Don, you have the boards? If so I would like two now. The white switches
you have are used in the leftmost positions, correct? Then I would take 16
of them and wait until you get some response on the new switches. So 2 X 20
= 40 for the boards + 16 X 2.50 = 40 for the switches, makes $80 total,
plus shipping. Please check my math, add shipping and let me know how much
to send you.
Best!

John,

I'm having trouble locating my stock of the white switches.
Give me another day to hunt for them. I may have to order more
but either way I'll ship your board today.

I have the following jumpers on my FP Mini:

MWRT -shorted
PROT - open
UNPROT ON -shorted
UNPROT OFF - open

These are the jumpers along the bottom of the board.

With this configuration I am not able to use the Deposit toggle switch to
change the contents of RAM.

However just for fun I changed the UNPROT jumpers so that UNPROT ON is open
and UNPROT OFF is shorted. With this configuration I was able to use the
Deposit toggle switch to change RAM memory. Now I am using Josh's 8080
board so when I reset the first 32K is ROM, so I needed to set memory above
that to check the Deposit function.

Anyway if any of you want to try this setting let me know what happens.

No problem, Don. I'm not in any big hurry.I am cleaning my workshop this
week so I know how you feel. I found some family video tapes that I have
been looking for for months. My wife will be very happy they were found!

Would you rather communicate via email or N8VEM?

Best,

Don - I got my miniFP board today, along with seven switches: 1 blue SPDT
(on/on), one red SPDT (on/on) and 5 red SPDT (on/off/on). Thanks!
I Think still need 14 SPDT (on/on) of whatever color is available (white?),
plus the switch bracket kit, right?
Best regards, JohnP

Great, glad it arrived ok.

I may have told you but just in case I haven't. I'm having trouble locating
my
stock of white switches. I'm going to order more on Monday so hoping to be
able to ship them to you by end of week. I'll ship the bracket kit as well.

I did get confirmation of my order from NKK. I'll have stock replenished
for the
red/blue in about 4-6 weeks.
