[N8VEM-S100:7338] CF Images for the Dual IDE/CF

Hi Everyone.

I have been building up a system with the Z80 board, 4MB memory board, Dual
IDE/CF, and the prop I/O. I have finished this and am using the V5.02 ROM
on the Z80. The system boots up to the menu. However I can't do very much
except check memory and display.

Now I want use my V2 Dual IDE/CF to boot up CP/M. Unfortunately the link on
s100computers for the jumper and switch setup is not working! I was
wondering what people use for settings on SW1, SW2. I think I have jumpers
K1 and K5 set okay.

I also found a thread about CF images for the IDE/CF board, but the date
was several years ago. Is there a location where I can copy a disk image
for CP/M? I have the Kingston 4GB CF.

Any help would be great!

Thanks
Harold

An older image I had at work is appended, I believe it's still the same as
my setup at home.

The CP/M files are near the bottom of this page:

http://s100computers.com/Software%20Folder/CPM3%20BIOS%20Installation/CPM3%20HDISK%20BIOS%20Software.htm

Making CPM disk images.pdf

CPM3-2014-06-27(1).ZIP
<http://s100computers.com/Software%20Folder/CPM3%20BIOS%20Installation/CPM3-2014-06-27%20%281%29.zip>

If you can't locate the images, I can dupe the CF card for you here.

Thanks Gary,

I'll try it. I looked at the scan of your board and it is the same version
as mine. However I noticed that pins 1, 4,5 an 6 of a 74LS02 have been
lifted and I can't tell if they are tied together. The IC is lower left in
your picture. I don't know what is going on there. I don't recall seeing
these changes on the build instructions for the DUAL IDE/CF. Did I miss
something?

Thanks,

Harold

There was an issue with the drive change not working well, specifically
with the 80386 board. At least for initial testing it shouldn't be an
issue. I chose to make the modification on a small header instead of
cutting traces. It's at the bottom of the section for V2.

*Bugs *There seems to be a problem with the drive select A & B timing with
some CPU boards, the rising edge signal from U15A pin 1 (WR*) is coming up
before the data line D0 has really settled into pin 2 of U16A. You can
delay the rising edge signal to U16A, pin 3, by inverting the signal
through the spare U15B gate. Bend out pin 5 of U15 and pin 3 of U16A.
Jumper U15A pin 1 to U15 pins 5 (front of board). Connect U15 pin 4 to U16
pin 3 (back of board). If you experience difficulty switching drives with
the MYIDE program software, please consider this patch. (Thanks to Dave
Mehaffey & Thomas Owen for pointing this out).

Thanks Gary,
I checked the schematic and I understand what you did. Now I do remember
reading about the issue. I just discovered that I am not able to access the
second CF card B. According to the schematic U15 is used for the selection.
Maybe I need to make the modification to add a small delay?

For now however the CF card A is being accessed okay. I think the port
address is correct since I am getting activity on the CF, but getting "boot
error" when I try option "P" from the menu. I tried downloading the CF
image but so far I don't think I am doing it correctly. I will try again
and let you know my progress.

Thanks for your help,

Harold

Hi Gary,

I downloaded the zip file and extracted cpmtools and Win32diskImage
programs with no issues. I am following the document "making CP/M3 CF disks
for S100 IDE Board" by Yoda. When I went to the Images folder and tried to
extract the CF image file I got an error from WinZip saying the file was
not a valid archive file. I also downloaded the original zip file from
the s100computers site and got the same result. So far I haven't been able
to extract a valid .img file!

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Harold

Harold -

I just downloaded the CPM3-2014-06-27.zip file from www.s100computer.com
with no problem and it unzip's just fine.

Email me privately and I can send you the .img files if that would help.

Gary,

I got it to work! I am not sure what I was doing wrong, but now I can boot
CF-A with CP/M 3. I guess I will have to make the changes to U15 in order
to get CF-B to work.

Thanks for the help,

Harold
