[N8VEM-S100:6987] n8vem-sbc.pbworks.com anonymous access not available

I have n8vem-sbc.pbworks.com bookmarked and have been accessing the site
for many months anonymously checking documentation for the JAIR and other
projects. This morning I'm prompted to login. I don't have an account and
have not been prompted for user credentials previously. Tried it with
Chrome, IE and FIreFox clearing cache and trying from a couple of my
computers.

I did an internet search with google 'eprom site:n8vem-sbc.pbworks.com' all
of the links prompted me with a request to login without displaying the
desired page.

Some setting may have inadvertently changed in the n8vem or the parent
pcbworks configuration. Or an underlying software update broke anonymous
access.

I note on this list a few days ago some folks have not been able to access
KiCad files for the new version of the S-100 backplane stored
on n8vem-sbc.pbworks.com

Unless this problem is isolated to me potential new page visits from folks
that haven't accessed the site will be disappointing and discouraging for
those that may want to join in the fun of building one of the projects.

Perhaps experienced N8VEM users can log out and attempt to duplicate my
experience anonymously.

I feel this problem needs an escalated response. There could be *tens *of
people being turned away from the site disappointed not to mention I'm
trying to reference some documentation for a blog post :-)

You are *NOT* alone Jeff. Same thing happened to me. Welcome to the world of "big brother". Can't be anonymous anymore. I have the same concerns as you -- what about all the people who *might* peruse the sight and get interested in some (or many) of the projects? They see the login crap, and say, "no thanks". And go away. When you build a wall around something, it sends a message that you'd rather not welcome new ideas and participation.

It happened to me too. I used to be able to access tha board inventory
without signing on, then all of a sudden I had no access. I didn't have a
login, so I asked for one and got it within a day or so. But yes, new users
will be discouraged!

Has there been some change in policy as to access for the site?

I happened to google 'extender site:n8vem-sbc.pbworks.com'

Google reports:

So annoying. I was able to access the site content from Google cache, but
now, it seems that the robots.txt file was modified to prevent google from
indexing and caching the whole site.

All this username/password stuff defeats the purpose of bringing more
people to the community. All the work done by the n8vem community is now
completely hidden from anyone, and so is pretty much useless.
I don't know what motivated this change of policy but I'm not sure it is
wise choice.

We just talked about this a couple of weeks ago. The problem is that the
default setting for PBWorks instances has been changed to hidden, to
prevent them being indexed by search spiders. It is possible to set the
instance to be open, again, as it was before, however. There was a
discussion on the main N8VEM list about it, and I thought the problem had
been corrected.

I just sent another email to that list, asking about it. Hopefully, this
can get fixed soon.

Thanks!

Here is a link to a discussion on the N8VEM forum (not this N8VEM-S-100
forum) You'll need to join that group to read. Basically people want
anonymous access, it looks to be a configurable option. Looking for someone
with administrator rights to do the configuration changes. It's not totally
clear to me what changed and why/how.
